Moving from OpenAI Prism

62 days left to export your Prism projects

Prism shuts down on January 1, 2027. Bring your papers to scime draft.

scime draft is a free, AI-assisted LaTeX editor for research papers. Upload your Prism export ZIP and every project comes across in one step, ready to compile, with AI included.

Free · no credit card · your files stay exportable

Three steps

Step-by-step export instructions, and how to check your ZIP before Prism closes, are in the Prism export guide. Comparing options? See Prism alternatives compared.

  1. 1

    Export from Prism

In Prism, open Settings → Data Controls → Export all projects (zip). For a single project, use its title menu → Export (zip). Download the latest PDF too if you want a reference copy.

  2. 2

    Import into scime draft

Upload that ZIP unchanged. Every project in it becomes a scime draft project with its LaTeX source, figures and bibliography; your Prism chats are kept as Markdown notes in prism-chats/.

  3. 3

    Compile, then invite co-authors

Open a project and compile it. A Prism export does not include collaborators, comments or history, so invite your co-authors again from Menu → Sharing & collaborators and reconnect Zotero from Menu → Zotero library.

What comes across

LaTeX source, figures, .bib files
Imported as they are, main file detected automatically
Prism chats (all-projects export)
Kept as Markdown notes next to the project they belong to
Co-authors and permissions
Not in Prism's export: invite them again in one step
Comments and version history
Not in Prism's export: history starts again at import
Zotero connection
Not in Prism's export: connect your Zotero library once

Everything you used in Prism, and more

Real-time co-authoring

Edit together with live cursors, comments and suggested edits, with version history for every file.

Compile in the browser

PDF preview without a local TeX install, with jumps between the PDF and your source.

AI in the editor, free

Revise passages, fix compile errors, draft from an idea, find citations, simulate reviews and answer reviewers, on scime's own model.

Or keep GPT

Add your own OpenAI key (or Anthropic, or any OpenAI-compatible endpoint) in Settings. Your provider bills you; scime adds no limit.

References that check out

Zotero sync, and every \cite looked up on arXiv, DBLP, Crossref and OpenAlex before you submit.

Never locked in

Download any project as a ZIP at any time, or sync it with GitHub. Overleaf ZIPs import too.

Also in scime draft: a submission check for ICLR, NeurIPS, ICML, ACL and CVPR rules, calibrated mock reviews, a rebuttal room, and a field radar of the closest accepted papers from scime atlas.

Questions

When does Prism shut down?

OpenAI's notice in Prism says January 1, 2027, and that Prism data is deleted after shutdown. Export your projects before then.

Is scime draft really free?

Yes. The editor, collaboration, compiling, the submission check and AI are free. AI on scime's own model has no usage limit; busy hours may queue. With your own API key, requests go straight to your provider.

Which AI model does scime use?

By default, an open model that scime runs on its own server. You can switch to your own OpenAI, Anthropic or OpenAI-compatible key at any time in Settings → AI.

Are my papers used to train AI?

No. scime does not train AI models on your manuscripts. With your own key, your provider's data terms apply.

What happens to my Prism chats?

If your export includes them, each chat is saved as a Markdown note in the matching project's prism-chats/ folder. Chats that name no imported project go into a separate, private project.

Is scime draft affiliated with OpenAI?

No. scime draft is made by Latentic Labs and is not affiliated with or endorsed by OpenAI.
